St. Edward’s University celebrated the grand opening of a new facility at Wild Basin made possible by REI and other partners with a special ribbon cutting event... or should we say toilet paper cutting?
The Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve, a 227-acre preserve in southwest Austin, is co-owned and co-managed by Travis County and St. Edward’s University. They unveiled the “Enviro Loo” (Eloo®) Outdoor Restroom, an environmentally-friendly replacement for portable toilets. As the first E-Loo open to the public in Travis County, this facility offers two restrooms that increases accessibility of Wild Basin for visitors, increases inclusivity for handicapped visitors, and incorporates cutting-edge innovations in environmental stewardship by using no water or electricity, instead relying on solar and wind energy.
The Eloo has increased the environmental sustainability and stewardship of Wild Basin Preserve. As an SEU Alumna, it was such a pleasure to be a part of this celebration! You could feel the excitement from everyone who was gathered at the event.
